The University of Southern California Bass Lab has published my story of how Nigerian medical graduates of 2022 from Ukrainian universities were denied the right to take assessment tests that will qualify them to practice as medical doctors in Nigeria.

This is despite the fact that the country is battling brain drain, where medical workers are fleeing to Europe where they are paid better.

When the war between Russia and Ukraine broke out in late February 2022, many international students left Ukraine – the majority of African students experienced racism while escaping the war; they were denied access to trains and buses, as well as denied exit at the border.

In the story, I featured a student who returned to Nigeria and had gone far in her preparations to take the assessment exams, only to be told at the last minute that she would not be allowed to because her medical education was conducted online.

But in reality, the student only had her last two months of education online, and that was because of the war, which displaced thousands of students.
